Move draws fierce criticism and triggers intense protests by DYFI and Youth Congress
A POLITICAL storm erupted in Palakkad on Friday after the BJP-ruled Palakkad municipality pushed through a decision to name the planned building for a new BUDS school — an institution meant for children with disabilities — after RSS founder K B Hedgewar.
The move drew fierce criticism and triggered intense protests from DYFI and Youth Congress activists who accused the BJP of "brazenly using public infrastructure to advance a divisive, communal agenda rooted in Sangh parivar ideology".
The school is set to be constructed near the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium using corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds.
During the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Youth Congress workers planted a banana sapling at the site in a symbolic act of resistance while the DYFI vandalised the stage set for the programme.
