Ottappalam traders to protest 'unfair' waste fee for zero-waste biz

MERCHANTS and shop owners in Ottappalam have raised concerns over the mandatory user fee imposed by the Haritha Karma Sena (HKS) on all businesses, including those that generate minimal or no waste.
Traders have announced a protest march to the Ottappalam Municipal Corporation at 10 am on Friday to demand relief and revised criteria for the user fee payment system.
The Haritha Karma Sena, a green initiative under the state government's "Suchitwa Mission," is responsible for managing and collecting waste in municipalities across the state. The fee, aimed at funding the waste collection process, has been fixed at ₹150 per month per business within the Ottappalam municipality limits.
