UN Top Court Rules Climate-Harmed Countries Could Claim Reparations

The United Nations' top court says that countries harmed by climate change could be entitled to reparations for the damage they have suffered from rising global temperatures, but what they are owed should be determined on a "case by case" basis.

The finding is part of an advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice in a landmark case about nations' obligations to tackle climate change and consequences they may face if they don't. The court has been reading a summary of the non-binding opinion, which runs to over 500 pages.
