Flutter After Vulture With Camera Spotted in Maoist-Affected Kanker

A vulture fitted with an electronic device containing a camera and transmitter was sighted in a Maoist-affected area of Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, raising concerns and curiosity among locals and security forces.

Forest department officials later cleared the confusion.

The officials said that the vulture, an endangered species listed under Schedule 1, is part of a research project conducted by the Vulture Conservation Breeding Centre (VCBC) in Haryana's Pinjore. They said the confusion arose as a vulture fitted with a camera had not been spotted in the disturbed Bastar region earlier.
