Delhi's Sheesh Mahal in Shalimar Bagh thrown open to public after meticulous restoration

DELHI'S 17th-century Sheesh Mahal in Shalimar Bagh has been restored and reopened to the public, bringing new life to one of the city's lesser-known Mughal-era monuments.
The restoration, led by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in collaboration with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), was completed in two phases and unveiled on July 2, 2025.
Commissioned in 1653 by Izz-un-Nissa Begum, wife of emperor Shah Jahan, the Sheesh Mahal formed part of a grand Char Bagh-style garden inspired by its namesake in Kashmir.
