S'mogga district achieves 98% target of agri cultivation, cowpea sowing also on the rise

Total area for growing agriculture crops decreasing by 5,000-6,000 hectares every year

THE district has achieved about 98 per cent of agriculture cultivation this summer. Out of the 20,532 hectares of cultivation of various agriculture crops, the district has achieved a target of 19,128 hectares. Interestingly, cowpea cultivation is on the rise.

Talking to The New Indian Express, Kiran Kumar, joint director of the department of agriculture, said the cultivation of maize was 8,293 hectares which was more than the target of 7,720 hectares. Another major crop is cultivated in a total area of 9,373 hectares, out of the target 11,600 hectares. Sunflower was cultivated in about 200 hectares, out of the target of 280 hectares.
