MINISTER for Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao has said that the state government will take appropriate steps to address faculty and nursing staff shortages, as well as various student and institutional demands, at the Government Ayurveda Medical College and Teaching Hospital here.
The minister visited the college and hospital and held a review meeting with senior officials and faculty on Wednesday. "I have taken note of the issues raised by the college administration and students. The government will initiate the recruitment process for teaching staff and nurses soon. Necessary steps will also be taken to provide space for starting postgraduate (PG) courses," he said during his interaction.
Dr Prashanth Kekoda, the acting principal of the college, highlighted the acute shortage of teaching staff. "We currently face a serious lack of professors and associate professors. While the sanctioned intake for the BAMS course is 60, we have only 33 students enrolled this year. The drop in admissions is a direct reflection of the faculty shortage," he said.
