Mammoth rail network proposed for mining regions of Sundargarh

FOR seamless connectivity and faster movement of freight, the Indian Railways has reportedly chalked out a transformative plan to lay a wide network of new rail lines connecting mining belts of Sundargarh and nearby regions with industrial hubs and ports.
The upcoming steel corridor to connect the iron ore-rich Koida belt of Sundargarh and Barbil in Keonjhar along with the adjacent West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand envisages to drastically cut freight travel time to Paradip, Dhamra, Gopalpur and Haldia ports and industrial hubs of Rourkela, Kalinganagar, Angul, Jharsuguda and others.
In 2024, the proposal for Karampada-Gua line of 24.4 km was sanctioned to connect the triangular mining regions Sundargarh, Keonjhar and West Singhbhum as part of the proposed steel corridor.
