Big blow to Cong in town panchayat polls in Kolar

THE ruling Congress party suffered a major blow in the recently-concluded Town Panchayat elections in Kolar as the result gave a clear advantage to the JDS-BJP alliance.
Of the 17 wards in the newly-formed Vemgal-Kurugal Town Panchayat, the Congress secured only six wards, while the JDS-BJP combine won 10 wards, and an independent candidate claimed victory in one ward. This was the first election held in the upgraded town panchayat, which was formed in 2019 during the tenure of then chief minister B S Yediyurappa by merging the Vemgal and Kurugal gram panchayats.
