Activists plan candlelight march on Friday, Shraddha rituals on 11th day

A DAY after over 40 trees were chopped for road widening on Hyder Ali Road near SP Office in Mysuru City, angry activists from various NGOs held an emergency meeting and decided to launch massive agitations against the authorities by starting with a candlelight march on the stretch on April 18.
Over 110 activists from various organisations including Mysore Grahakara Parishat, Parisara Balaga and Clean Mysuru Foundation gathered at Chaluvamba Park on KRS Road near Akashavani and held discussions to protect trees from cutting by district administration for various development activities including road widening for free flow of the traffic movement. During the discussions, the activists expressed disappointment over the felling of fully grown trees from SP Circle to Kalikambha Temple near Nexus Mall in the wee hours of Sunday by Mysuru City Corporation as it also affects Mysuru Zoo and Karanji Lake which are two biodiversity hotspots.
