Proposes retaliatory tariffs on imports of select US auto parts under WTO norms
INDIA has formally notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) about its intention to impose retaliatory tariffs on select automobile parts imports from the US.
This move comes as a direct response to the US decision on March 26 to implement a 25% tariff on imports of passenger vehicles, light trucks, and certain automobile parts originating in India, effective May 3, 2025, and continuing indefinitely. India asserts that these US measures are inconsistent with WTO agreements and are causing significant harm to its trade interests.
