Carlyle enters domestic auto parts sector

THE US-based investment firm Carlyle Group has entered the domestic auto components market by buying a controlling stake in an entity formed by the combination of two auto-parts makers - Highway Industries, a firm formed by the Munjals of the Heromotors and Haryana-based firm Roop Automotives.

Though Carlyle didn't disclose the value of the deal in its public statement, a source in the know of the deal-making told TNIE it was concluded for $400 million. The equity for the investments will come from funds affiliated with Carlyle Asia Partners, the firm said, adding it will own 65-70% stake in the platform.
