Man drowns after country boat capsizes in paddy field
CONTINUOUS heavy rains and an unrelenting inflow of eastern floodwaters have caused a sharp rise in water levels across Kuttanad, leading to widespread flooding in several regions. The Pampa, Manimala, and Achankovil rivers have overflowed, submerging numerous houses and farmlands.
The district administration has opened 39 relief camps in Kuttanad and Ambalappuzha taluks. Around 3,700 people from 1,053 families were shifted to the camps.
Five panchayats in the Kuttanad and Upper Kuttanad regions are facing severe waterlogging. The Ambalappuzha-Thiruvalla state highway is submerged, forcing the suspension of KSRTC bus services, especially along the waterlogged Nedumpram road. Water has also entered roads in Thakazhi and Kelamangalam, disrupting transportation.
