The first phase of the tetrapod-based seawall construction project in Alappuzha district is nearing completion. The construction of groynes (pulimuttu) using tetrapods, aimed at protecting the shoreline, spans 11.26km across the coastal areas of Kattoor, Ambalappuzha, Vattachal, Padhiyankara, and Arattupuzha in the Alappuzha, Ambalappuzha, and Haripad constituencies.
The tetrapod structures, which extend from the shore into the sea, are designed to reduce the impact of waves, thereby decreasing coastal erosion, and allowing the natural accumulation of sand. It helps in restoring the beach and protecting the coast.
