DESPITE the 10% tariff imposed by the US in April, India's merchandise exports rose by 9% during the month, with exports to the US surging by 27%.
DESPITE the 10% tariff imposed by the US in April, India's merchandise exports rose by 9% during the month, with exports to the US surging by 27%. Total exports during the month were $38.5 billion, compared to $35.3 billion a year ago. Exports to the US surged to $8.5 billion in April 2025 from $6.6 billion a year ago.
It must be noted that the US had announced a reciprocal tariff of 26% on Indian goods on April 2 this year, and a baseline tariff of 10% was imposed from April 5. Later, the 26% tariff was put on hold for 90 days.
