Successful conservation efforts involving the local community helps the park bag the title

- NEJMA SULAIMAN @Idukki

The recent achievement of Eravikulam National Park (ENP) in Munnar, which was ranked the best among all national parks in India, as per the Management Effectiveness Evaluation (MEE) 2020-25 conducted by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, points out the successful conservation efforts and community development programmes initiated by ENP under the Munnar Wildlife Division.

Speaking to TNIE, an official at the park said, ENP is known for its unique ecosystem, which includes grasslands and shola forests. "The park is home to a large population of Nilgiri tahr and is also famous for its Kurinji flowers, which bloom once every 12 years. The park's ecotourism model, which involves local communities, has been recognised as one of the best in the country," he said.
