Unchecked inflow of waste through Manichithodu stream undermines cleaning efforts

- RAHUL R @Kollam

POLLUTION remains unchecked in the Ashtamudi Lake despite spending crores on its rejuvenation. Toilet waste and garbage continue to be dumped into the lake, turning its waters dark green. Plastic and sewage waste flow freely through the Manichithodu stream, draining directly into the lake.

Though Kollam corporation has claimed to have installed grills at the stream to block waste, plastic bottles and polythene covers continue to pour in. While expensive cleaning operations are carried out from one side of the lake, the unchecked inflow from the Manichithodu stream undermines these efforts.
