Decades-old Mayyanad government hosp faces ruin as maintenance stall

The government hospital in Mayyanad, established in 1957, is on the verge of collapse due to years of neglect and poor maintenance.
Despite receiving funds for infrastructure development, authorities have failed to carry out critical repairs, leaving the building in a dangerously dilapidated state.
More than 500 patients visit the hospital daily, risking their lives as services continue within the poor building structure. Although a new hospital building was announced earlier, the project remains only on paper, with no visible progress on the ground.
The roof has collapsed in several areas, causing severe leakages during rains, while support pillars have cracked, exposing rusted iron rods. The Mukathala block panchayat, which is responsible for the hospital's upkeep, has come under fire for inaction.
