Mahendragiri to be ready for Navy by Feb '26

THE push towards indigenous production of large-sized and heavily armed ships is bearing fruits with all the Nilgiri class stealth frigates being produced as per the timelines, according to officials.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Additional General Manager Jay Varghese on Tuesday told this newspaper that the ship will be delivered to the Indian Navy by February 2026.

"We have the Mahendragiri ship, which is the fourth and final vessel of the P-17 Alpha class of stealth ships being built at Mazagon Dock. This class of ships will certainly add significant strength to the Indian Navy, as they are the most modern and come equipped with integrated surface-to-surface, surface-to-air and underwater capabilities," Varghese said. A total of seven ships will be constructed under the Project 17A (Nilgiri Class).
