CHANDRASEKHAR will succeed Surendran who served as state chief for five years, including two years as interim president and three years in a full-term capacity.
TNIE was the first to report on Chandrasekhar being considered for the state president post. His impressive performance in the Lok Sabha polls made him a strong contender. Though he narrowly lost to Shashi Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram, Chandrasekhar successfully attracted upper and middle-class voters, a demographic that has traditionally supported the BJP in other parts of the country. Initially hesitant, Chandrasekhar was reportedly urged by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to attend Sunday's meeting.
