Kerala seeks rejection of Prez reference

THE Kerala government has moved the Supreme Court seeking rejection of Presidential reference over the timelines for grant of assent to bills, on the ground that it was not "maintainable".
In its 13-page application, accessed by TNIE, the Kerala government contended that there was serious lacunae in the reference and it should be returned unanswered.
"The present reference suppresses the single important aspect, namely, that the first 11 out of the 14 queries raised are directly covered by a judgment of the Supreme Court" in the State of Tamil Nadu v. the Governor of Tamil Nadu case, merely one month before the reference was made on 13th May, it said.
