INDIA successfully achieved its initial Bonn Challenge target of restoring over 21.76 million hectares (mha) of degraded and deforested land, saving it from desertification, and is on track to meet the second target of restoring an additional 5 mha by 2030.
Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced the details on Wednesday at the release of “India’s Second Progress Report on the Bonn Challenge: 2011—2020 Assessment of Progress in Restoration Efforts Across the States and Union Territories”.
