UTTARA Kannada is witnessing a strong protest against the state government over a survey taken up to construct two new private ports at Kheni and Tonka beach in Honnavar, respectively.
Thousands of protesters gathered at Tonka beach to oppose the survey taken up for the construction of a private port - Honnavar Port Private Limited. Notwithstanding the scorching summer heat, the fishermen and villagers who gathered alleged that they were not given any notice before taking up the survey. They demanded that the authorities should justify to them why they were surveying the entire area at the Tonka beach. "Where is the environmental clearance you have been given? You said that no houses will be demolished. Now why are you surveying it?" the villagers questioned.
