Postal services to go digital in Bagalkot, Mysuru on pilot basis

This will enable customers to track their parcels in real time on their mobile phones

IN a significant step towards digitising postal services, the Department of Posts has introduced a range of online services like doorstep 'parcel picking'.

The system has been introduced on pilot basis in Bagalkot and Mysuru as part of a pilot project. If successful, the initiative will be extended to post offices across India.

According to the officials, until now, customers had to visit the post office to send parcels. But, with this new facility, once a parcel is booked online, postal staff will visit the customer's home to collect the item. This convenience will come with a nominal additional charge.
