Padma awardee scientist found dead in Cauvery

RENOWNED scientist and Padma Shri awardee Subbanna Ayyappan was found dead in mysterious circumstances in the Cauvery river, near Sri Sathya Sai Baba Ashram in Srirangapatna taluk, Mandya district, on Saturday evening.
Ayyappan (70) was living with his wife Uma at Sankalp Basant apartment in Visvesvaraya Nagar here. He left his house on his two-wheeler on May 7, and did not return. Worried family members and relatives searched for him and when they could not trace him, filed a missing complaint with Vidyaranyapuram police on May 9.
On Saturday evening, police got information of a body floating in the river near the ashram, and rushed to the spot. On verification, the body was identified as that of the scientist. They also found Ayyappan's scooter parked on the banks of the river.
