"FARMERS should stop the illegal use of water across the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal. Otherwise, they can be punished with two years of imprisonment and a fine of 2 lakh under the Irrigation Amendment Act," said the Superintendent Engineer of Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Ltd, Yaramaras Circle, in a statement.
The Tungabhadra reservoir near Hosapete is used for irrigating 2,44,000 hectares in Koppal and Raichur districts. This 226.91-km-long canal, stretching from the Tungabhadra reservoir to Raichur, is managed by the Vaddarahatti, Sindhanur, Sirwar, and Yaramaras divisions of the Tungabhadra Project.
