THE spirit of devotion and unity once again came alive in Nanawadi as residents celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with an eco-friendly idol, marking the 14th year of their Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal's tradition of promoting sustainable festivities.
This year's celebration stood out as the residents themselves transformed into artists, adding a distinctive touch to their 9-feet-tall idol by coating it with sacred Tulsi beads.
The initiative took shape when Mahendra Nandeshwar, a staunch devotee of Lord Vittal and Rukmini, suggested adorning the idol with Tulsi beads, an idea he drew from his regular visits to Pandharpur.
The proposal instantly struck a chord with fellow residents.
Following this, Nandeshwar along with Ravindra Sawant and a few others travelled to Pandharpur, a hub for Tulsi Mala trade in Maharashtra, where they sourced beads of varied sizes and colours.
