Sports Department's apathy towards Odisha's home-grown athletes

IN a curious case, the Sports and Youth Services department of Odisha government has arranged air-travel for only 18 out of the 37 members of the athletic squad scheduled to take part in the Indian Open Athletics Meet to be held at Patna on July 19.
The Athletic Federation of India (AFI)'s entry list showed 37 athletes will take part in the meet. However, a letter issued by the officer-on-special duty to Sports department Dr Swarupananda Sahu to the general manager of Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) revealed requests for the travel, accommodation and local conveyance for just 18 athletes, drawn from an athletic high-performance centre (HPC) and support staff.
