IN the face of unabated extortion calls affecting the legal community in British Columbia (BC), the lawyers have demanded that the Canadian federal government classify extortion as a terrorism offence under the Criminal Code.

- HARPREET BAJWA @Chandigarh

"The law society of BC is aware of recent incidents in which lawyers have been threatened with serious physical harm unless they provided substantial sums of money. If you are threatened in this manner, immediately contact the police in your jurisdiction. The police may involve the new extortion task force. The Canadian Border Services Agency has also recently joined the task force," read a statement issued by the Law Society of British Columbia on November 14.
