SIT arrests key accused in AP liquor scam

IN a significant breakthrough in the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) apprehended key accused Govindappa Balaji, Director of Bharathi Cement Corporation Private Limited, on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off and an intelligence input, the SIT detained Balaji near Mysore, Karnataka, and brought him to Vijayawada under a transit warrant.
Vijayawada Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu, heading the SIT, confirmed the arrest and stated that Balaji is likely to be produced before the Vijayawada court on Wednesday after completing formalities. Balaji, listed as A33 in the case, is alleged to be a close associate of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and is accused of playing a pivotal role in the scam.
