Notices to govt, EC over amendment of poll rules

THE Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the Centre and Election Commission (EC) on a plea challenging the amendments to the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961, restricting citizens' right to access poll-related records.
The petition, filed by activist Anjali Bhardwaj, and argued by advocate Prashant Bhushan claimed the 2024 amendments in Rule 93 (2) (a) of the Conduct of Election Rules, places unreasonable restriction on fundamental right to information of voters insofar as it introduces new restrictions beyond the records already specifically
