SC guidelines to check insensitive handlings in sexual offence cases soon

THE Supreme Court on Monday stayed the the Allahabad High Court’s March 17 ruling which held that “mere” grabbing the breasts of a minor victim and breaking the string of her pyjama to “bring down” her lower garment are insufficient to draw an inference that the accused were “determined to commit rape”.

A two-judge bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said that the final hearing of the case will be held in January. The bench indicated that it will lay down guidelines for the trial court in connection with POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) cases.
