EEPC seeks Reserve Bank cushion against liquidity crunch faced by exporters

Representatives from the EEPC met RBI governor Sanjay Malhotra on Thursday to flag sectoral concerns and request support measures.

Among its key recommendations, the EEPC asked for an interest equalisation scheme for exporters to reduce borrowing costs. "The interest paid by the MSMEs (micro, small, medium enterprises) currently hovers around 9% or above, making the cost of capital high, rendering them less competitive in the global market. We requested the governor if they could consider an interest equalisation scheme to offset tariff impact," said Pankaj Chadha, chairman, EEPC India.
