Cong relents, backs Uddhav candidate for MLC elections

The development comes a day after fissures within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) became evident with both the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress announcing that they will field candidates for the lone seat the Opposition alliance can win in the council elections.

The allies patched up after former CM Uddhav Thackeray dialled Congress general secretary KC Venugopal and Maharashtra Congress in-charge Ramesh Chennithala, urging them to support Danave as the joint MVA candidate for the MLC polls.

Thackeray also spoke to Maharashtra Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal and even sent a Shiv Sena (UBT) team to meet him afew hours ahead of filing of the nominations.
