The cooperative sector in Belagavi is witnessing a fierce tussle between two powerful political families – the Jarkiholis of Gokak and the Kattis of Hukkeri – as both eye control over key cooperative institutions that have long shaped the district's economic and political landscape.

The Jarkiholi brothers have turned their attention to three major entities: the Hiranyakeshi Cooperative Sugar Factory of Sankeshwar, the Hukkeri Rural Electricity Cooperative Society (HRECS), and the Belagavi District Central Cooperative (BDCC) Bank. All three have historically been under the dominance of the Katti family.
