NSTR staff's proactive efforts to ensure plastic-free Nallamala

In a determined push for environmental conservation, the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR) authorities have intensified efforts to transform the Nallamala Forest into a plastic-free zone, marking World Environment Day with a comprehensive and community-driven action plan.

The officials have been focused on strict enforcement of the ban on single-use plastics, sustainable alternatives, and mass clean-up operations, especially in sensitive pilgrimage and tourist zones, which began last year.

A multi-departmental task force comprising staff from the forest, police, revenue, and endowment departments has been formed to oversee the implementation of the plastic ban across NSTR. "We have constituted a Joint Vigilance and Enforcement Team for Srisailam, Sunnipenta, and other forest areas. Offenders will be fined ₹2,000 for the first violation and ₹5,000 for subsequent offences," said Atmakur Division Forest Officer and Deputy Director of NSTR T Sai Baba.
