Announces $3K stipend & free flight home if 'illegal aliens' sign up to self-deport by year-end
THE United States has announced a Christmas-season offer to encourage individuals without legal status to leave voluntarily.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will give each person $3,000 (approximately ₹2.70 lakh) and a free flight home if they agree to leave the US before year-end. This is part of broader efforts to increase voluntary departures and reduce enforcement costs.
The DHS said it is continuing its holiday-season promise to help illegal aliens return to their home countries. "Illegal aliens who sign up to self-deport through the CBP (Customs and Border Protection) Home app by the end of the year will receive a $3,000 stipend in addition to a free flight home. Using the CBP Home app also qualifies recipients for forgiveness of any civil fines or penalties for failing to depart the country," the statement read.
