Traders, citizens unite in protest against terror

MORE than 900 markets in the capital, including the bustling Connaught Place, Sadar Bazar, Gaffar Market and Chandni Chowk, remained deserted on Friday amid the 'Delhi Bandh' called by traders' bodies to protest against the gruesome terror attack in Pahalgam.
Various merchant associations from key sectors such as textile, spice, utensil, and bullion kept their shutters closed.
According to the Confederation of All India Traders, over 8 lakh shops remained closed in the capital, resulting in losses estimated to be around ?1,500 crore during the day.
Connaught Place, one of the city's most coveted markets, known for brand outlets and fine-dining restaurants, remained shut. So was Mukherjee Nagar, a hub for coaching centres.
The usually vibrant streets of Chandni Chowk, Janpath, and Sarojini Nagar had no shoppers thronging them.
