Prime accused in Assam teen gang-rape case dies by drowning, say police

THE prime accused of the 'gang-rape' case in Dhing area of Assam's Nagaon district died allegedly by jumping into a pond while attempting to flee.

The police had taken the accused, Tafiqul Islam alias Tafazzul Islam, to the scene of crime in the early morning of Saturday.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma told the media that the accused died by drowning. "There was an incident (in Dhing). The police had arrested an accused. He tried to escape by jumping into water (pond) but died in the process," Sarma said.
