MUSIC is often labelled as a universal language that transcends differences—boundaries, time and space. For former diplomat Nirupama Rao, music is one such passion that brings peace—her brainchild, South Asian Symphony Orchestra (SASO), is a bridge towards the idea. "Music has always been a deep and abiding passion of mine. It travels across borders, transcends politics, and speaks of our shared humanity," she says. Founded in 2018, SASO has been more than a musical collective for Rao. The orchestra exemplifies what she calls cultural diplomacy, where music facilitates dialogue, fosters empathy, and nurtures understanding among nations that often find themselves amidst hurdles.
