Medha Patkar's conviction stands, penalty set aside

IN a major setback to Narmada Bachao Andolan activist Medha Patkar, who was held guilty in a defamation case filed by Delhi L-G V K Saxena, the Supreme Court on Monday refused to intervene with the Delhi High Court order upholding the trial court conviction.

"We are not inclined to interfere with the conviction," the two-judge bench said.
