India to have 347 million elderly by '50, need to view ageing as priority: Report

COME 2050, and the elderly will make up 20.8%, or 347 million, of the total population in India—which had an estimated 149 million people over the age of 60 in 2022—a new report said Friday.
Since India will undergo a rapid demographic transition towards an ageing population, it is necessary to view ageing as a national priority, stressed the status report on 'Ageing in India: Challenges and Opportunities' released by the Sankala Foundation, a research organisation.
