HC no to 25 Saturdays working days for schools

KERALA High Court quashed the order of the Director of General Education, in publishing the academic calendar for the schools governed by the Kerala Education Act and Rules, for the academic year 2024-2025, by making 25 Saturdays working days.

The court said that the decision to declare the 25 Saturdays as working days was taken without properly hearing the stakeholders and obtaining their views.
The views of the experts in Education and psychology of children to assess the impact on mental health were also not considered, said the court.
Justice Ziyad Rahman clarified that this judgment shall be made applicable to the coming Saturdays, which are declared as working days as per the calendar.
