Impossible to hold free and fair elections under Yunus-led interim govt, says Awami League
BANGLADESH'S political tensions flared sharply on Thursday after the Awami League (AL) of former Prime Minister Sheik Hasina rejected the interim government's decision to hold national elections on February 12 and accused the administration led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus of being "illegal and fascist.
The Awami League's position marks the latest rupture in the ongoing standoff since Sheikh Hasina was made to flee the country amid studentled protests in August 2024.
