Cash-strapped Punjab hopes to get ₹3K cr by selling unused land

THE cash-strapped Punjab government, whose outstanding debt touched ₹3.98 lakh crore till October this year, hopes to generate ₹3,000 crore through monetisation.
It has identified unused land parcels that are set to be developed and sold under the threedecades-old Optimum Utilisation of Vacant Government Lands (OUVGL) Scheme to fulfil its pre-poll promise of giving an ₹1,100 per month honorarium to all women in the state. With only 14 months left for the state assembly elections, the financial crisis has deepened.
