AKHILESH, MAYAWATI DEMAND RESERVATION FOR SC, ST & OBCs
The Morning Standard
|September 20, 2023
UP satraps the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Tuesday extended their support to the Women's Reservation Bill, but with riders.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav stuck to his stance of carving out a quota for women from the backward classes, Scheduled Castes and minorities within the 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
Significantly, he demanded that the right to reserve seats must rest with the political parties and not with the Election Commission.
