WITH Assembly polls due in Assam and West Bengal in early 2026, the first Vande Bharat sleeper train is set to begin operations between Guwahati in Assam and Howrah in West Bengal later this month.

The first-ever Vande Bharat sleeper train will begin operations between Guwahati in Assam and Howrah in West Bengal later this month

Assam is expected to go to the polls in March-April 2026 to elect its 126-member Assembly, ahead of the current House completing its term on May 20.

Meanwhile, West Bengal is headed for Assembly polls in the same period, with voting due before the term ends on May 7 to fill all 294 seats.
