Teen honoured at ceremony for heroic rescue at South Coast beach

FOR diving into treacherous waters to save three teenagers from a rip current at Pennington Beach, 16-year-old Keegan Lowe was honoured at the National Sea Rescue Institute's (NSRI) 58th awards and annual general meeting.
Held at the Lagoon Beach Hotel in Cape Town at the weekend, the event celebrated exceptional acts of bravery, gallantry, and long service, recognising both volunteers and civilians whose courage and dedication reflect the NSRI's core values.
"Tonight we honour extraordinary courage and lifelong commitment. Every award represents not only individual bravery but also the collective spirit of the NSRI — volunteers, families, partners, and supporters working together to save lives," said NSRI chairperson Jonny Velloza.
