Removal of KwaDukuza mayor by the ANC welcomed

OPPOSITION parties and a ratepayers’ group in the KwaDukuza Local Municipality have welcomed the ANC's decision to remove the mayor, Ali Ngidi, and his deputy, Njabulo Cele.

ANC provincial task team coordinator Mike Mabuyakhulu summoned the party caucus, where he presented the report and the recommendations of the investigation team that the party had appointed in April to investigate the reported abuse of privileges by Ngidi and Cele.

He said based on the report, a decision had been taken to ask both Ngidi and Cele to tender their resignations.

The ANC’s Fanele Sibisi said the two councillors will remain in their positions while the council processes their replacements. Thereafter, they will continue to serve as ordinary members of the council.

This is the second time that the mayor-ship of KwaDukuza has changed hands in less than a year; the former mayor, Lindi Nhaca, was removed by the then ANC leadership eight months ago. She later accused the provincial secretary, Bheki Mtolo, of targeting her.
