NSFAS BETRAYAL DEMANDS INTERVENTION
The Mercury
|September 30, 2025
THE National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was conceived as a beacon of hope, a tangible commitment to redressing the injustices of the past by unlocking the door to higher education.
-
Yet, today, it stands as a monument to bureaucratic failure and a persistent betrayal of South Africa’s most vulnerable students. The scheme has abdicated its most basic obligation, leaving a trail of broken promises, empty stomachs, and shattered academic dreams in its wake. Despite countless reassurances and media statements from the highest offices, the situation on the ground remains dire. Students are being rendered homeless and are unable to access their constitutional right to education because the very funding designed to support them has failed to materialise.
